Family Assessment

Our family assessment centres carry out parenting assessments on behalf of the Local Authority or other agencies to help make decisions about the long-term living arrangements for their children. Throughout the assessment process, our dedicated team ensures that the welfare of the child remains paramount. We promote and assess parenting skills to ensure that children are safe and protected and offer families an opportunity for intensive support to help them recognise the needs of their children.

  • The Groves is based in Sutton and is registered for up to 5 families. We can accommodate single parents and couples with their children. Staffing ratios are always fulfilled so that families have the right support at all times.

What is a Family Assessment Centre?

We are a dedicated team that assess and support parents within a residential setting. Helping them be the best parents they can. We offer a level of support at the beginning of the placement and then step back and observe what changes they have and can make. Our main focus is to keep families together when it is safe and in the best interest of the child to do so. Parents have tailored assessments to meet the needs of their own unique family and are assessed on their capability in all routine tasks involved in all aspects of caring for and protecting their child.

Most parents will reside at our family assessment centre’s for 13-16 weeks. Each family will have a tailored assessment to assess their parenting skills and ability to safely care for their child. We understand that each family is different and certain things may need adapting to achieve the most successful assessment possible. Our assessments are more than just observing the parents and child, the team will advise and support to help develop skills in areas beyond parenting.
